PORT HARCOURT— RESIDENTS of Rivers State have been assured of free medicare. Governor Chibuike Amaechi gave the assurance when he played host to Dr. Precious Gbeneol, Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, at Government House, Port Harcourt.

He said: “We are determined to pursue free healthcare. We are building and this is the first time we are putting an administra-tive structure in place. We had told the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Board that we would pay for every patient.”

He said the government had built three new hospitals, a 120-bed hospital at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST, another 120-bed hospital at Emenike Street, Diobu and a dental hospital at Garrison to further bring healthcare delivery closer to the people.
