The Criterion, a faith-based women organization, has identified lack of good parental upbringing as one of the factors responsible for increasing number of miscreants  in the society.

The group, in a seminar organized for secondary school students in Ibadan,  also identified absence of communal institutions, poor educational aspirations and peer influence to western life mentality as part of the causes of youth crimes.

In a paper titled, “Juvenile Pregnancy”, delivered by Dr.( Mrs.) Aminat Olaboopo at the seminar, the Criterion explained that a child was born with a clean mind, adding that “he neither has a religion nor a belief system, he is neither a Christian, a Jew nor a Muslim; what he becomes is what his parents make of him. The major factor is parenting.”

She noted that bad parenting might stem out of being a single parent.

She hinted that youths were prone to certain behaviours that are anti-social and maladaptive, noting that it was left to parents to nip such anti-social behaviours in the bud at an early stage.
