Global market leader in the logistics industry cum seasonal expertise in international express, parading a global network composed of more than 220 countries that targets to offer quality service delivery to its valued customers home and abroad, as part of its social corporate responsibility provides baby care kits to women with newborns and those expecting to give birth soon.
This exercise took place at Isolo General Hospital, Lagos; Wuse General Hospital, Abuja and Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital, Port Harcourt.
Speaking at the event in Lagos, Country Manager, DHL, Mr. Randy Buday said, putting together these baby care kits provides new parents with the items necessary to properly care for their newborns or expectant babies.
With access to a blanket, hygiene supplies, and a few pieces of clothing, it makes all the difference”, he said.
Buday explained that Global Volunteers’ Day initiative was observed in DHL entities all over the world from September1 – 10, 2011.
Again, it’s a continual effort by DHL to contribute meaningfully to the communities in which it operates by helping to make a positive impact on the world, he said.

It is said also that the donation in its package will not only help mothers of low income but contains important information that will educate them on nutrition and immunisation with expert advice and supports.
Human Resources Manager, Mrs. Funmi Glover, said that DHL has decided to make a difference to the lives of these newborns by welcoming them into the world in a very special way with these donations.
We recognise that nearly one out of every two children is born into low income families and many new mothers lack the basic baby supplies needed to keep their infants safe and healthy.
Without vital baby care materials, newborns risk illness or even death. Some young mothers often have limited or no access to such and some lack knowledge about the type of newborn items necessary for their babies.
Low income families in Nigeria and in countries around the world are often unable to afford the baby supplies that many middle-class families take for granted.
Akinwande Olufulayo, the Head of Nursing who spoke on behalf of the Acting Medical Director, Isolo General Hospital, Dr. Fagbalola, said the step DHL had taken is a beautiful one and we commend it for providing baby care kits for mothers with newborns and the expectant.
We also expect that other corporate bodies to look at this direction and help some of these nursing mothers.
She also commended some organisation that have been visiting the hospital with different types of donations and thanked the Lagos State government for upgrading the facilities at the hospital.
