Nigeria’s bronze medalist in the women’s 100 meters event, Gloria Asumo was crest fallen after the race which was won by her compatriot, Damola Osayemi.
Although this is her first participation in the All Africa Games, youthful Asumo said she was disappointed by her bronze-winning performance. “My aim was to win the gold medal and surprise everybody. I did not expect a bronze,” she said regretfully.
She admitted that she did not have the best of starts. “My strong point is my start but it wasn’t there today. I am disappointed,” she said shaking her head in disapproval.
“As a first timer, I know it is no mean feat winning bronze in a continental championship. I wanted something better, definitely not a bronze.”
