ABUJA – THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday warned the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, not to drag the judiciary into what it described as dirty politics. The PDP also raised alarm that the CPC and some other parties were out to influence judicial decisions.

In a statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prof Rufai Ahmed Alkali, the PDP said, “we find it worrisome that some political parties are actively involved in dangerous schemes to surreptitiously influence judicial decisions.

“Our attention has been drawn to statement credited to the  CPC in which the party publicly criticized the Court of Appeal over the recent postings of members of the Presidential Elections Tribunal.

“We wonder when it has become the norm for interested parties in a dispute to choose those to preside over cases involving them. It is even more curious to find the CPC attempting to deny the judiciary the right to assign its own officers to any duty post they deem fit.

“Again, we wonder when the CPC suddenly regained its faith in the judiciary having openly declared through its Presidential Candidate its loss of faith in the judicial process.

“We urge the CPC and other interlopers to allow the judiciary discharge its duties to the Nigerian people and refrain from dragging the hallowed institution into dirty politics”, the statement added.
