ADO EKITI— Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, has called for unity among monarchs in Yorubaland, saying this was the only way the region would be respected and not be marginalised in the scheme of things in Nigeria

Ooni spoke weekend, at Ikole-Ekiti during the coronation and presentation of staff of office to the new Elekole of Ikole Ekiti and paramount ruler of Egbeobaland, Oba Ajibade Adewumi Fasiku, Aladesekole 1.

He noted that the unity of the traditional rulers in the region should not be compromised

Oba Sijuade said the history of Yorubaland would not be complete without the name of Elekole as one of the grandsons of Oduduwa.

The monarch commended the leadership role played by the immediate past Elekole, Oba Adetula Adeleye in forging unity and cooperation among traditional rulers in Yorubaland

Oba Sijuade who was accompanied to the ceremony by Deji of Akure, Oba Adebiyi Adesida, urged the new ruler not to involve himself in partisan politics, saying, “traditional rulers are expected to support the government of the day.”

Oba Sijuade advised the people to support the new monarch, saying this was the only way the town could be developed

He commended Governor Kayode Fayemi for embarking on people oriented programmes.

Earlier, governor Fayemi announced that the controversial issue of sitting the Federal University between Oye and Ikole ekiti had been resolved in favour of the two towns.

Fayemi urged the people of the two communities to see the university as their baby that should be protected.
