LAGOS— Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, SSAEAC, yesterday, in Lagos, vowed to confront the Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, over alleged plan to sack a large number of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, workers.

SSAEAC in a letter to the Minister, urged him to jettison the idea to avoid an industrial unrest, insisting that the association would not tolerate victimization of its members.

The association noted that the Bureau for Public Enterprises, BPE, had expressly stated that all labour issues must precede bidding and sale of any public company.

SSAEAC’s letter by its President, Mr Bede Opara, said: “We to bring to your knowledge the fact that before your appointment as Minister, President Goodluck Jonathan had appointed a Negotiator/Conciliator to look into and resolve labour issues in the power sector, before the planned reforms.

“We draw your attention to the outcomes of first and second meetings chaired by the same Negotiator/Conciliator at Abuja and Ghana, where it was explicitly stated that no action prejudicial to the final outcome of the negotiations should be undertaken by any side. Consequently, your earlier memo to PHCN management and BPE to the effect that promotions were suspended was withdrawn to pave the way for the negotiations.”
