OSOGBO—AT least, one person has died and no fewer than 20 people in Osun State have been hospitalized in different hospitals following outbreak of water-borne related diseases in the state.

The development may not be unconnected with the on-going strike by civil servants including staff of the state Water Corporation over the implementation of minimum wage which forced residents to resort to drinking untreated water.

The government has however, allayed the fears of the citizens over possible outbreak of the disease.

According to the Director, Communications and Strategy, Mr Semiu Okanlawon the government was on top of the situation.

He said the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Temitope Ilori, and her counterpart in the Ministry of the Environment, Professor Olubukola Oyawoye, who led a team of government officials to the affected areas in the local governments, said the situation was under control as health officials had moved in to ensure adequate treatment of those who were affected.

The commissioner for Health stated, “This is why we have come here to see for ourselves. But with what we have seen, and the control measures already put in place, the situation is under control. Those affected have been treated and they have returned to their respective homes. Government will ensure that there is no repeat of the incident.”
