A five-man armed robbery gang , Friday, attacked a pregnant woman in front of an old generation bank at Egbeda area of Lagos State, after withdrawing some money. The robbery gang made away with the woman’s N178,000.
However, policemen attached to the bank, who engaged the armed robbers in a gun duel, were able to arrest one of the suspects in the process while another escaped with gun shot wound alongside the three others.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at Faith Bus Stop, along Idimu-Egbeda Road when some armed men operating on two motorcycles, popularly called “Okada”, went after the heavily pregnant woman after cashing the money from a nearby bank.
She was accosted by two of the armed men who snatched the cash from her at a gun-point while the three others stood at the other side for an easy escape.
The scream from the woman attracted the policemen stationed at the bank and other adjoining banks in the area.
The policemen, after a hot chase, arrested one of the suspects who fell off the Okada, while another one escaped with gun shot wound.
Policemen from Isheri police station, who arrived the scene later, took custody of the suspect who was immediately taken to the station while the rest of the police team went after the get-away armed robbers.
