Asaba-A Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Delta State and a former member of the state House of Assembly during the last Assembly have been ordered arrested by Inspector General of Police over their alleged involvement in forgery of a police report.
Following the development, the former lawmaker has gone into hiding, while the DPO was said to have reported to Zone 5 police headquarters in Benin City for questioning.
It was gathered that in a bid to create the impression that election conducted in Isoko area of the state was not free and fair, the former lawmaker connived with the DPO to allegedly falsify a police report, an extract purporting that the election was marred with violence and irregularities.
The ‘run-away’ lawmaker was allegedly relying on the forged document to prove his petition before the National Assembly Election Petitions tribunal sitting in Asaba. The lawmaker is challenging the election of the incumbent member representing Isoko South I constituency, Mr. Benjamin Okiemute.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Charles Muka, when contacted referred Vanguard to Zone 5. An insider, however, told Vanguard: “it is true but don’t quote me please. We are investigating the matter.”
