Former African champions, Enyimba Football Club of Aba and Confederation Cup debutants Sunshine Stars of Nigeria shone like a million stars in their various campaigns for honours in the continent, surprisingly both on away soils.

While Enyimba who are campaigning in the more prestigious and lucrative Champions League shocked their host, Coton Sport 3-2 in Cameroon, Sunshine Stars  upset the apple cart on Friday night when they defeated their more illustrious Algerian opponents, JS Kabylie 2-1 at the Stade du 5 Juillet in Algiers.

Before the encounters, Sunshine stood a better ground after their 2-0 home win against DC Motema Pembe of  DR Congo a fortnight ago while Enyimba had their ego bruised from Al Hilal of Sudan who stunned them with a 2-2 draw at the Aba Township Stadium also a fortnight ago.

With the away result, Enyimba now lead Group A with four points, same with the Sudanese who pipped Raja Casablanca 1-0 but the Aba side are ahead on superior goals  advantage while  Sunshine also lead their group with the maximum six points from the two matches so far played.

The two-time champions took the lead in the game in Garoua when striker Uche Kalu powered home a 10th minute strike.They extended their lead five minutes before the break through Johnson Gidozi.

Cotonsport rallied just after the break and reduced the arrears in the 46th minute with Madila Nfoto scoring. The home side levelled up 17 minutes later when Sido Idressa slotted in from the edge of the box.

But Enyimba put up a spirited fight late in the game and Kalu fired in the winning goal six minutes before time to seal the victory for the Nigerians.The win puts Enyimba back in contention for a place in the semi-finals having drawn their opening group match against Hilal.

Playing without three key players in Ibrahim Ajani, Ukeyima Akombo and cup-tied Cameroonian midfielder, Medrano Tamen, Sunshine Stars tutored by Gbenga Odubote had to claw their way from a goal down to take all points in this feisty encounter.

Goals from Sunday Emmanuel and Atanda Sakibu ensured that the Nigerians kept their 100 per cent start in the competition after the Algerians had shot into the lead through Salim Hanifi.

The result leaves Sunshine Stars top of their group since DC Motema Pembe of DR Congo and Maghreb de Fes of Morocco did not win their opening games.Sunshine Stars now have six points from their opening two games.
