FEGOCOWOSA honours Okumagba with sports carnival

Fedeal Government College Warri Old Students Association, FEGOCOWOSA, recently held it 5th edition of sports carnival.

Speaking at the sports carnival, Sophia Onyenkpa, Chairman, FEGOCOWOSA Lagos branch, said this year’s sports carnival with the theme, ‘Unity through Sports’, is tagged the Albert Okumagba Memorial Sports Cernival, in honour of Albert Okumagba who died a year ago.

According to her, “Albert was an ambassador of sports and unity. He was instrumental to the creation of then Lagos branch of the association . He promoted sports as a tool for unification.

“This year, we chose Kings College as venue because Albert was also a one-time student of Kings College. He held both schools so dear to his heart and was a foundation member of Unity Schools Association, USOSA, comprising all federal colleges.”

She said the aim of the sport carnival was for people to come together, adding: “One thing that has no descrimination is sports. So we are organising the sports carnival to get the youths to to come together, play and bond as a way of promoting unity. Fedeal Government Colleges all over the country is know for sports, which is a unifying force. In schools these days, youths are not taking sports seriously that is why the have time to engage in vices such drugs, crimiminal activities.”

She called on governments at all level to build sports centres in schools. Every school should have a sports ground because sports build the students up.

Also speaking on the occasion, wife of late Albert Okumagba, Emila Albert Okumagba,, thanked, FEGOCOWOSA for honouring her husband, adding: “It is a good initiative and Iam happy he is being honoured, He was a pioneer member of that started . So it is a good thing that my husband is remembered for his good deeds, God bless them all.”

The sports carnival featured football, board games, athletics, volleyball etc, Other activities included frees medical check-up,aerobics and exercise among others.
