Port Harcourt— The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Iche Ndu, has set up the state’s Local Government Area Elections Appeal Tribunal.
At the inauguration, Justice Ndu told members of the tribunal to live above board and keep their distance from corruption as the judicial system would not tolerate any act that could tarnish its image.
Justices E. Ogbuji, Adulphus Enebeli and Godpower Agumagu are chairman and members respectively. The Chief Judge charged them that justice must be done to all parties without fear or favour.
“You must be exemplary in your conduct,” he said.
In another development, wife of the Rivers State Governor, Mrs. Judith Amaechi, has called for the establishment of a task force to enforce the child rights laws in the state.
Amaechi who said she would champion the implementation of the child rights act, said it was “most regrettable” that children had become victims of societal lapses and parental indifference.
She acknowledged that it was difficult to embrace all aspects of the Child Rights Act, but advised parents and guardians to ensure that the core values of the African society were not jettisoned due to modern challenges.
