As moves by the National Sports Commission to coerce the Nigeria Football Federation into holding an Emergency Congress appear to be failing the Director General of the commission, Patrick Ekeji is now making another move to get all the parties to the dispute reach a peaceful resolution.

He has called for a meeting tomorrow.

The meeting was prompted by the need to bring the Aminu Maigari-led Executive board of the NFF to discuss with the rival NFA led by Jarret Tenebe on the way out of the logjam brought about by the formation of the rival body.

Although the NFF leadership had resisted the idea of calling for a congress, an initiative of the NSC, the football house was persuaded to attend today’s peace meeting by the need to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis.

Chief Patrick Ekeji who could be said to have shifted grounds on the his initial call for a congress disclosed yesterday in Abuja that the parley would go on as scheduled with all the concerned parties expected to be in attendance. Ekeji restated the commitment of the NSC to resolving the problem, saying they will remain firm and forthright in their mission.

Similarly, the NFF leadership which had earlier rejected any form meeting with the ‘dissident NF’  has agreed to attend the meeting although it remains skeptical of the sincerity of the NSC in the whole drama.

Our source said that although the NFF big wigs were not favourably disposed to the idea of a “peace meeting” they may end up going to the NSC secretariat as a sign of obedience but would resist any attempt by the supervisory organ to make them sit at a meeting with the “dissidents”.

“There is no way the NFF can sit and discuss with people who contested election and failed under NFF and now say they are forming a rival group,” our source said.

The “dissidents” have reportedly boasted of the backing of Chief of Staff to President Goodluck Jonathan Mike Oghiadomhe and said that they were determined to form a rival football body.

The protest they wrote based on which the police earlier invited the NFF leadership was to Oghiadomhe. NFF went to court to get injunction against any arrest by the police.
