Of all the characters on Netflix’s hit French drama series, Lupin, Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab) is one of the most interesting.

The almost childlike police detective is the first to figure out that their suspect’s modus operandi is similar to that of Arsene Lupin, the quintessential French gentleman thief from Maurice Leblanc’s series of novels.

And even though he’s written off by his colleagues at the police station — being taken off the case by the corrupt Commissioner Dumont at some point — he never stops trusting his instincts and keeps investigating by himself, which leads to him being the first to find Assane in the season’s gripping finale cliffhanger.

The way Guedira addresses Assane in that final scene shows that beneath his dedication to catching this criminal he’s been tracking for weeks, is respect.

Respect and maybe even adoration for this man who has successfully embodied a fictional character who is arguably Guedira’s childhood hero.

Already predicted by fans, part two of Lupin expands on the relationship between the two as they form an unlikely alliance in the first episode to save Assane’s son, Raoul.

Their escapades in the first episode of part two will teach Guedira that things aren’t always black and white.

Even though Assane makes it clear from the jump that he does not trust the police, he spends the rest of the season occasionally supplying Guedira with proof that Hubert Pellegrini is evil, and also passes along information that could prove helpful in their mutual desire to bring down Pellegrini, Dumont, and all the people who need to be brought to justice.

If, for Guedira, that list includes Assane, remains to be seen. Lupin part 2 will be available on Netflix from the 11th of June 2021.
