Ilorin – Kwara governor-elect, Abdulfatah Ahmed, says  sports and youth development will  be given special attention by his administration.

Ahmed made the pledge on Monday while receiving delegations from the  Sports Council, Kwara Football Academy and  Kwara United Football Club.

The Pillars of Sports in Kwara, Chief Donatus Ejidike,  also paid Ahmed  a courtesy call at his  residence on Monday.

The governor-elect said a greater percentage of the country’s population were the youths, adding  that  adequate attention should be given to them at the local, state and national levels.

Earlier, the Chairman of  Kwara United FC, Oladimeji Thompson, had  congratulated  the governor-elect, adding that  the sports bodies were in his residence to solicit support for sports development.

The chairman, who intimated the governor-elect on the past achievements of the club,  promised that the club would be involved in continental competition to ensure maximum use of the new stadium.

Ejidike , in his remarks,  congratulated the governor-elect and prayed for God’s guidance and wisdom in the task of developing the state.

The Acting Director of Sports, Malam Tunde Kazeem, said Ahmed’s success did not come as a surprise as Kwarans had  been watching with keen interest his achievements in public office.

Soliciting Ahmed’s support in the area of sports development, Kazeem  noted that  the new stadium in the state had modern astor turf.

He urged teams in the state to  work hard so that international meets could be attracted to the stadium.

Kazeem, who  pointed out that the state government had done a lot to boost sports development  in the state, urged the incoming administration to renovate the Indoor Sports Hall which was on the verge of collapse. (NAN)
