Azare (Bauchi)  – Alhaji Mohammad Manga (III), the Emir of Katagum in Bauchi State, has expressed sympathy for the victims of the recent post-election violence, which erupted in some parts of the state.

The emir expressed the sympathy on Thursday when he visited 500 displaced persons currently taking refuge at the Azare Police Barracks.

He urged the people within the emirate to live in peace and harmony with one another for the development of the area.

He said that peace was the backbone of any country  yearning for development.

Manga further enjoined all residents to continue to carry out their businesses without fear of molestation.

He, however, urged them to desist from acts capable of breaching the peace in the area.

The emir, who was accompanied by his council members, stated the post-election violence was unfortunate.

He gave an assurance that the perpetrators of the violence would be brought before the law.

Manga said that the emirate council would liaise with the state government to ensure that the victims were assisted to enable them to recover what they lost during the crisis.

He commended the police officers in the area for the maturity they showed in managing the crisis.

Alhaji Ahmed Garkuwa, member-elect, House of Representatives for Dambam Federal Constituency, donated foodstuffs and materials worth thousands of naira to the victims.

Some of the victims, who spoke, commended the emirate council for the gesture. (NAN)
