Okwagbe lndigenes in Diaspora have donated palliatives to the people of Okwagbe community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, LGA, of Delta State.

The items include three cows ,  hand sanitizers and plastic buckets for  regular hand washing.

Mr. Japhet Efakpokrire, President of Okwagbe lndigenes in Diaspora, while making the presentation at the community Town Hall in  Otor Okwagbe (Okwagbe lnland ) stated that the group made up of indigenes based in Warri, Asaba, Lagos ,Abuja, and abroad found

it necessary to support their kith and kins.

While speaking on the need to obey social distancing, he advised the community executives  to always educate the people on the need to avoid large gatherings.

He said :”This  donation is a gesture of our goodwill towards our people. We have come to give the little that we have. I advise the community leadership  to use their good office to share everything equitably as they adhere strictly to  regular use of sanitizers provided to check the spread of the pandemic. May I also call on other Okwagbe lndigenes in Diaspora to contribute to  the diaspora purse so that we can do more for our people”.

Olorogun Okiemute Oviri Okwagbe (JP), the Coordinator of the project, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Okowa on Community Liaison, said the donation   was done to support  Governor Okowa who distributed palliatives to his people at Okwagbe from the state food bank.

He further explained that: ” lt is not good  to leave everything for the governor who has been working round the clock with the SMART Agenda to create a stronger Delta . Governor Okowa ,having done so much for Okwagbe people in particular and Deltans in general we the lndigenes of the community in  Diaspora decided to support the state government laudable effort in trying to combat the spread of  Covid – 19 pandemic.”

While stressing the need to comply with NCDC guidelines, he assured the people that the scourge will soon be  over.

He maintained that the  Okwagbe Diaspora Group will continue to  make this kind of  gesture.

Mr. Abel Eyube, Deputy Coordinator of the  Project, said one of  cows would be given to Waterside while  Otor-Okwage (Okwagbe lnland) would receive two.

Eyube further  adviced that no one should short changed in the sharing process.

Mr.  Stephen Oshomedje,  President-General of Otor-Okwage ( Okwagbe lnland), who officially received the items  in his speech expressed  joy  over the gesture.

He said:”Having done this for us , my prayer for Okwagbe lndigenes  in Diaspora, is that God Almighty  should   grant them  favour for  more    blessings .May our lndigenes in Diaspora be  recognised and given choice   appointments in all tiers of  government so that they can develop  Okwagbe community , Ughelli South LGA and Delta State in general”.

Comrade Sunday Turu Oyibo, President General of Okwagbe Waterside, represented by Mr. Benjamin Origbon and Mr. Austin Veso Oviri, Otor-Okwagbe Community Spokesman, commended the group for the gesture.
