An Edo State High Court sitting in Auchi has ruled as unconstitutional, the suspension of Chief Johnson Emeasalu, as
Chairman of Akoko Edo Local Government by Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
But the state government, through the Attorney General of the state, Dr Osagie Obayuwana, has rejected the judgment
and opted to appeal it.
Governor Oshiomhole had in February, 2010,suspended Chief Emeasalu, an in-law of former Chairman of the Board of
Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, for alleged corrupt practices and
misappropriation of council funds.
Chief Emasealu cried foul, alleging that he was a victim of political persecution.
Justice E.O.Ahamioje, in his verdict, said the suspension of the former council boss was illegal, saying only the
state Assembly has any such power
