The Lagos state government Wednesday declared its readiness to partner with the Nigeria Olympic Committee towards the realisation of the Olympic values education programme.
The workshop for the programme commenced yesterday with school sports officers from the 36 states of the federation and Abuja in attendance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the three-day workshop the deputy governor of Lagos state, Sarah Sosan, who was represented by the Tutor General and permanent secretary, Lagos state ministry of education, Otumba Ayobade Obajimi conveyed the good wishes of the people and government of the state to the NOC and pledged government’s readiness to assist in seeing the programme through when she remarked that she was thrilled by the train-the-teachers programme..
Declaring the workshop open at the Union Bank Sports complex in Lagos yesterday, President of the NOC, Engineer Sani Ndanusa said the workshop was a teach-the-teachers programme and urged the participants to take the message to their states where they will train games masters on the benefits of the Olympic values with a view to imparting it on school pupils and secondary school students.
He said, “you are expected to transfer the knowledge gained from this workshop to the physical education teachers in the various states.”
Speaking further, the NOC boss said, “through their teachers, the young people will not only learn more about Olympic history and its symbols, they will also discover the power and strength of the Olympic Values.”
Ndanusa said the NOC would select six states – one each from the six geo-political zones – for the pilot scheme of the OVEP programme expected to take off soon.
