Group flays FG over Bianca’s appointment

BY CHRIS OCHAYI
ABUJA—A PAN Igbo organisation, National Renaissance Movement, NRM, has said the recent appointment of Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, the wife of the defunct Biafra warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, as Senior Special Assistant, Diaspora Affairs; by President Goodluck Jonathan was an insult to the Igbo race.

The organisation in a statement by Mazi Chijioke Ewulum, its Director of Publicity, doubted if President Jonathan had consulted Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu before appointing his wife.

The group said: “Who did Mr. President consult? We need not be told as it may be a classified information. But, the chances were that the Ikemba Nnewi was too ill to be consulted.

”Our major concern here is the appointment of Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, wife of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, as Senior Special Assistant, Diaspora Affairs.

It is public knowledge that our revered foremost Leader cum nationalist, Ikemba Nnewi, is currently receiving medical treatment abroad.

”Although news emanating from the foreign hospital where the Ikemba Nnewi is hospitalised suggests Bianca’s husband is responding positively to treatment, it is expected and presumed that Mrs Ojukwu is at the bedside, nursing her dear husband.

“In the light of the forgoing, it makes sense to ask: why appoint a young woman who is nursing her seriously ill husband to the position of Senior Special Assistant, Diaspora? What is the intention of this ill fashioned appointment? Senior Special Assistant, DIASPORA? Is the Diaspora for Ndigbo or Nigerians? Whichever, Diaspora is diaspora! By implication, Mrs. Ojukwu to be effective in her new political role, means she should abandon her sick husband and work for Mr. President. Tufia Kwaa
