Anti-narcortic agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Monday arrested an amateur footballer over unlawful importation of 8.4 kilogrammes of heroin at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos.

The suspect, Mr. Nwobodo Ikechukwu, 32, was arrested when the substance tested positive for heroin during the screening of passengers on an Emirate flight from Bangladesh to Lagos.

The agency disclosed that the drug which was hidden at the bottom of the suspect’s luggage was the largest seizure at the airport this year adding that it was estimated at a value of 42 million naira in Lagos.

NDLEA Airport Commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar said the suspect was co-operating with its team of investigating narcotic officers noting that useful information had already been collected from him.
