CONFERENCE of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, has expressed outrage over the presence of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,  Professor Attahiru Jega, at the venue where President Goodluck Jonathan registered as a voter on Saturday.

Jega was in company of the president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Jonathan, in his home town, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, on Saturday where he obtained his voter’s card.

But in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of CNPP,  Mr. Osita Okechukwu Sunday, the CNPP called on the INEC boss “to wake-up, abandon the ignoble cult followership, which converted former INEC chairmen into puppets of former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and be on top of his duty post as an impartial umpire.”

The CNPP said it had expected Professor Jega “to be on top of his duty post at INEC Headquarters, Abuja, receiving reports of non-arrival and late arrival of officials and materials and the worrisome reports of malfunctioning DDC machines, which have become the metaphor of the exercise.”

Noting that Nigerians did not want the extension of the voter registration under any guise, the CNPP, however, asked Prof Jega “to wake-up from deep slumber, remain an impartial umpire and distance himself from any of the contestants of the April elections.”
