HUNDREDS of women in Edo State, Thursday, protested what they described as the “intimidation and robbery” meted to female aspirants at the just concluded primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

This came as a female aspirant for the  House of Representatives, Ovia Federal Constituency, and former Commissioner for Education in the state, Mrs Lucy Omagbon, petitioned the leadership of the party over alleged manipulation of the primaries by the organisers.

It will be recalled that a female House of Assembly aspirant for Akoko Edo constituency, Bisi Idaomi, had earlier petitioned the leadership of the party over the intimidation she received during the primaries which according to her “never held but some body was declared winner.”

However, the protesting women, who stormed the NUJ Press Centre at the early hours of yesterday, led by one Madam Okosun, lamented that women were not given a level playing field in the primaries and urged the Appeal committees set up by the leadership of the party to look into the grievances of the female aspirants.

As protest continued to trail the PDP primaries, Mrs Omagbon, who insisted that she won the contest and should be declared the party’s candidate for April elections, said a former party chairman in the area manipulated the list of delegates by including the names of former Councilors, who were not originally on the list.
