Family petitions Police over son’s murder

By Festus Ahon
THE family of Mr. Benjamin Ekpereko has petitioned Delta State Commissioner of Police over the alleged murder of their son, Mr. Enoch Ekpereko, by a police Constable, attached to the Igbide police post.

They also alleged that the police authorities at Igbide and Oleh Divisional Police Headquarter in Isoko South Local Government Area of the state facilitated the escape of the Constable, whose name was given as Solomon to pervert justice.

The family in the petition said, “sometimes in August 2010, late Enoch Ekpereko was riding an Olink motorcycle and was carrying his sister, one Miss Oghenekome Ekpereko on the said motorcycle when a policeman, serving under the Igbide Police Post in Isoko South Local Government Area, conducting routine stop and search, stopped them and customarily demanded N30 from them.

“Late Enoch’s continuous refusal to part with the said N30  as bribe caused him his life when PC Solomon freely used the police baton on the head and ribs of late Enoch Ekpereko and he died afterwards,” the petition added.

The family has, meanwhile, called on the police authorities in the state to urgently investigate the matter and ensure that the Constable was brought to justice.
