Imo State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 20 persons for various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery and murder.
Addressing newsmen in Owerri after parading the suspects, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Maishanu, also said his command recovered assorted kinds of arms and ammunition.
Giving a graphic account of one of the operations, Maishanu said: “On 18/12/2010, at about 0900 hours, a combined team of police personnel from the State CID, ‘B’ Ops, Orlu Area Command and Mgbidi Police Division, routed a gang of kidnappers at Mgbidi.”
According to the Imo police boss, at the end of intensive gun firing, the police arrested two of the kidnappers and recovered eight AK 47 rifle magazines, one Nissan Telva Jeep with registration number Lagos TL 299 KJA, one Camry XLE car with registration number AH 451 BRR.
Noting that one of his men was seriously wounded in the operation, Maishanu equally narrated how the police raided one uncompleted building at Okwelle, Onuimo local council area and arrested four criminals, following a tip off.
“For suspects were arrested and the police recovered one pump action No. P.627457, one German made revolver pistol with defaced number, one cut to size locally made gun, one cut to size doube barrel No. 092711510, GSM handsets, one expended cartridge, 19 live cartridges and four flash lights,” the CP said.
