CBN declares Oceanic Bank most punctual in clearing

Oceanic Bank International Plc has received the award of “Most Punctual Bank” in Clearing for the 2010 financial year from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at a ceremony organized by the Lagos Bankers Clearing House.

The Bank also bagged an award for efficiency in clearing data transmission, while its Managing Director/CEO John Aboh got a merit award for his unflinching support for the Lagos Clearing House activities.

The Lagos Bankers Clearing House comprises representatives of the 24 banks and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The rating for most punctual bank was done by the apex bank which regulates the conduct of operators and keeps the register of attendance at the clearing house.

According to the Chairman, Lagos Bankers Clearing House Representatives, Omotayo Emmanuel, the timeliness of presentation of clearing instruments by Oceanic Bank was outstanding in the period under review.

Emmanuel said Oceanic Bank came 5th out of the 24 banks for efficiency in clearing data transmission category, adding that the ranking in this category was done by the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS) through which all transactions in the banking system were conducted.

He explained that the quest for checking fraud and promoting efficiency in clearing is enhanced by error-free data transmission.

“These awards are indicative of the amount of expertise and attention to details that Oceanic Bank deploys in ensuring hitch-free operations in clearing and it is a good development for service delivery in the banking sector.”
