ENUGU—STAKE-HOLDERS of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  in the Enugu West senatorial district of Enugu State rose from a meeting at the weekend, resolving to crush any opposition to the re-election bid of Governor Sullivan Chime in the 2011 elections.

The stakeholders, consisting of members of the party holding elective and appointive positions at the local government, state and national levels, as well as party chieftains in the zone, described the current political differences between the governor and the National Chairman of PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, as a gimmick being orchestrated by retrogressive forces to destabilise the party in the state, saying they had vowed to uproot the arrowheads of the plot in the zone.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting by the leader of the state House of Assembly,  Johnny Obidimma, the zone also dismissed as fruitless and callous alleged efforts by opposition elements in the state to deliberately misinform the ordinary people of the state as to the real bone of contention.

The stakeholders added that Enugu people had long ceased to be gullible in political matters.

He said, “We, the political stakeholders in the Enugu West Senatorial District, have unanimously resolved that the Peoples Democratic Party has only one leader in Enugu state and that person is Governor Sullivan Chime, we have also resolved that he will be the PDP flagbearer for the 2011 elections as far as the gubernatorial election in Enugu is concerned.

We have also resolved to root out any retrogressive element in our circle whether operating covertly or overtly and ensure he is exposed to the odium and condemnation of Enugu people”.

Also describing the anti_Chime elements within the party as “agents of darkness and wickedness”, the stakeholders also urged all Enugu people to  not only pray for the sustenance of the rapid pace of development and security that the current administration has brought to the state but to actualise it at the upcoming polls.

Obidimma said “all future generations to come will always be grateful to this generation for having taking the wise course of ensuring that the Chime administration which is the beacon of light divinely handed over to us, is sustained at the 2011 elections”.

The stakeholders also frowned at reports that some people were plotting to launch a campaign of violence in the state in order to truncate the prevalent peace and security in the state and vowed to do all that is within their means to thwart the plot and bring the perpetrators to book.

“Let those people who are said to be planning evil and violence against the people of Enugu state for selfish political reasons know that we the people of Enugu West Senatorial district are poised and waiting for them, not only will they not succeed but we will make sure that they face the appropriate sanctions of the law”, they said.
