AWKA—GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State has approved N650 million for disbursement to the state’s Local Government Education Authority to enable it improve its services.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Dubem Obaze, said in Awka that it was the outcome of a peace talk between the leadership of the state branch of the National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, and the state government.

He commended members of NULGE for the mature manner they conducted themselves in the face of the internal crisis erupted in the union recently and urged them to remain peaceful and law abiding.

Obaze said the era of making trouble in the state was over, adding that the present government was committed to engaging in things that would promote the common good of everyone.

He extolled the performance of local government workers in the state, and noted that Anambra could boast of the best local government system in Nigeria, as Governor Obi had consistently been paying their entitlements.

Meanwhile, Governor Obi has handed over 21 brand new Hiace buses to heads of local government administrators of the 21 local governments of the state, saying the gesture was to ensure grassroots development in line with the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Dubem Obaze, expressed gratitude to the governor for his constant and quick response to issues concerning the local governments.

He noted that the local government system had operated with old vehicles in the management of their affairs, which had seriously hindered developments in the system.
