PORT HARCOURT — ITSEKIRI residing outside Delta State have been told to endeavour to come home to participate in the voters’ registration exercise.

Frontline Itsekiri leader, Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor,  who made the appeal in Port Harcourt during an interactive session with the Itsekiri community in Rivers State, said they should not fail to exercise their franchise in the coming election in the state.

She said she was in the state to sensitise the Itsekiri community to ensure they are part of the coming election in Delta State.

According to her, it is only their voters’ card that would make them have a voice in the coming election. “There would be election in the country next year, so I am here to tell them to come home to register in the voters’ registration exercise so that they can determine their leaders at all levels of government “.

Continuing, she said she was not in the state to market any particular presidential candidate to the Itsekiri community but to ask them to make good use of the next voters’ registration exercise by ensuring they come out to participate in it.

Chief Lori-Ogbebor said she was currently on tour of Itsekiri communities round the country for the sensitisation exercise.

She further called on Itsekiri all over the world to be united and promote the common interest of the Itsekiri nation at all times.  Fielding questions from the mammoth gathering on operations of multinational oil firms in some Itsekiri communities in Delta State, she blamed whatever problem they identified on poor implementation of GMoUs these multinationals enter  into with the communities.

According to her, the GMoU concept is all about development but the problem was with the implementation. She assured that she would take steps to ensure the implementation was done right.

One of those that rallied the Itsekiri community in Rivers State to receive her, Chief Eugene Ikomi, promised that Itsekiri in the state would yield to the call to go home to participate in the voters’ registration exercise.

According to him, “our vote is our might”.
