Tension has continued to mount both here in Nigeria and Zurich in Switzerland as the D-Day for the fate of the two suspended members of the FIFA Executive Committee, Dr. Amos Adamu from Nigeria and Reynald Temarii from Tahiti to be decided by Ethics Committee of the world body approaches.

Though both men have pleaded their innocence in the alleged demand for the sale of their vote for the 2018/2022 World Cup Host on December 2, 2010, pronouncement from the FIFA House, which sees the allegation supported by both audio and video evidence as too weighty, tilts towards their indictment.

FIFA president, Sepp Blatter who spoke immediately the scandal broke out said it was a sad day for football and stressed that “there are devils in our society and you find these devils in football.”

At another forum in Zurich where Nigeria’s provisional suspension was finally lifted, Blatter stressed that the voting for the 2018/2022 World Cups will go on as planned on December 2, 2010 with 22 out of the 24 Executive Committee members if the suspended duo are not cleared.

“The ethics committee are addressing a case that involves allegations of possible corruption. We will deal with them according to current regulations. If and when people are suspended for the vote on 2 December they will not be replaced,” Blatter had said

In Nigeria two men who have in one way or the other had bitter encounters with Dr. Adamu, Sports contractor and commentator, Martins Osaile and former Green Eagles coach and CAF/FIFA technical man, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde have added their voice to the fate awaiting the Ogbomosho-born administrator.

While Osaile believes Dr. Adamu will not come out ofv the investigation unscathed, Chief Onigbinde prefers to observe the ‘wait-and-see’ posture until the final decision from FIFA in a matter of five days.

“I am very sure adamu will be expelled from FIFA because he has disgraced FIFA, Africa and Nigeria and the EFCC will be waiting for him when he arrives here,” Ossaile said, adding that Danny Jordaan, the 2010 World Cup CEO will get the slot because he did well with the World Cup hosting.

On his part, Onigbinde said that it will be too early to comment on the matter, stressing that Dr. Adamu has not been pronounced guilty yet by the Ethics Committee of FIFA. Both men spoke on 88.9 Brila FM sports programme monitored in Lagos.
