AKURE—THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State, weekend, challenged the present administration in the state to probe the immediate past administration of Dr Olusegun Agagu.

In a statement by its Director of Publicity Ayo Fadaka, the party said: “It is now certain that the administration of Dr Olusegun Mimiko has perfected plans to probe the erstwhile regime of  Olusegun Agagu, this becomes obvious with the call by a sponsored group to embark on that scheme.

We in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, welcome that development and infact encourages  Mimiko to fast track that plan forthwith as it will afford us an opportunity to lay bare many hitherto undiscussed issues pertaining to the finances of this State, particularly relating to the management of the funds bequeathed to this administration by  Olusegun Agagu’s administration.

“We need to emphasize  our confidence in the competent manner that  Agagu managed the finances of this State in the most transparent manner ever by any administration, we recall that in administering the finances he did set up a  State Finance Allocation Committee under the Chairmanship of the Chief Judge and whose membership included extra governmental bodies like the Council of Obas and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

It was this Committee that allocated funds that were spent every month during the lifetime of that administration, it ensured that no secrecy ensued in the management of public fund, as laudable and innovative this development was, it was the first casualty of the Mimiko administration that scrapped it immediately it got to power as it was in direct contrast to its un altruistic designs on public funds which they have most rapaciously helped themselves with.

“Since the inauguration of this administration in February 2009, it had never deemed it fit to brief the State on the state of our finances, it discarded with the monthly ritual of letting the people know how much money is accruable to the State from both the federation account and internally generated fund, the only time ever that Mimiko ever discussed the finances of this State was when he made that infamous declaration that he inherited a debt of N117billion, a claim he later recounted when we confronted him with a superior analysis of the state of the account.
