Former Nigerian international, Christian Obi has described the present confusion in Nigerian football as the much needed tonic that will shoot back the country into reckoning.

Obi said that the people at the helm of affairs of the game were the elements going the wrong way instead of putting their house in order.

“The men at the helm of football affairs in this country  have gone astray. The house is in disarray and if it is in disarray, it will take a little time for the occupants or the administrators to forge ahead.

It is when the house is intact that things will work well with our football. If the people controlling the game are working to the will of the  citizens, the lost glory in our football will bounce back. For now I don’t think  we have a national team that we can be proud of’.”

The former goalkeeper of the defunct ACB football club of Lagos stressed that changing of the national team coach from time to time has its negative impact, stating that giving coaches time to strategise their team without stampeding them for results will help Nigeria’s football.

“Changing of national team coaches contributes to the non performance of the Super Eagles from time to time. For example, when Clemens Westerhof was employed as the national team’s Technical adviser, he was given time to assemble a winning team which everybody was pleased with.

If Austin  Eguavoen can be left to handle the Super Eagles, not as interim any more, but employed permanently as a full time coach, he will definitely perform.

Though we have not gotten the Super Eagles of our choice, but with time if Eguavoen can be given the same chance Westerhof got, we will excel,” said Obi.
