As part of its corporate social responsibility to enhance educational activities in the country, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has donated to Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), a modern centre for research and development.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwafemi Mimiko appreciated the corporation for the great gesture, stating that government alone cannot shoulder the general funding of Universities, hence the need for private sector support.

While soliciting for more of such developmental project, Mimiko described the new edifice as in deed a 21st century research building, promising that it would be maintained and utilized to boost and advance humanity.

The building project  which gulped #20 million, has been  commissioned by the NDIC Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji  Umaru Ibrahim {MNI} represented by Mr. Suliaman Olarewaju Mufutau.

In his address at the commissioning ceremony, the CEO mentioned  that “higher institution in Nigeria are lacking basic infrastructural facilities, resulting into poor standard of Education, and, against this background it has becomes necessary for Corporate Organizations and other well meaning groups and individuals within and outside Nigeria to come to the aid of tertiary institutions in the Country.

” He added that “the Corporation is in the third phase of financing such projects in tertiary institutions in Nigeria, targeting (10) selected Universities in which AAUA is one of them.”

He commended the University for being among the foremost educational institutions in Nigeria in the training, development and education of the youth, noting that the leadership of the Varsity has judiciously utilized the fund provided to it by the corporation.

“We are indeed grateful for this landmark in our institution. You have spent your fund wisely to help the future generation, such contribution cannot go unnoticed”, Mimiko stated

In a chat with the institution’s Director of Research Studies, Prof.  Christopher  Olumuyiwa  Aboluwoye said that certain sum of money has been set aside by the university for lecturers that would make them embark on research activities,

He added that the project, which was designed to add value to human and societal development, would also avail students the opportunity to carrying out their research projects rather than going elsewhere to copy already made work.
