Vandera targets transport, security challenges with technology

Abuja-based technology company, Vandera, is developing electric mobility and smart security solutions aimed at addressing everyday transportation and security challenges in Nigeria.

Founded by Kelvin Emmanuel Chinedu Umeh, the company is building its product portfolio around two flagship offerings: the Vandera Tricycle, a compact electric vehicle, and a solar-powered smart surveillance system.

The Vandera Tricycle is a four-door electric vehicle designed for short-distance journeys within residential estates and urban communities.

The vehicle comes with features such as central locking, air-conditioning, a large rear-view display screen, windscreen wipers and a heater. It is also designed to charge through a standard household socket, subject to a suitable electrical installation.

According to the company, the vehicle is intended to provide a convenient option for short-distance transportation while offering some of the comfort and features associated with conventional cars.

Its second flagship product is a solar-powered security camera system equipped with three lenses, two of which can be remotely controlled through a mobile phone.

The surveillance device supports SIM card connectivity, enabling users to monitor their properties without depending on home Wi-Fi. It also features colour night vision, two-way audio communication and an integrated siren.

Beyond the surveillance hardware, Vandera offers a managed security subscription service that provides additional monitoring for subscribers.

Under the arrangement, trained personnel at the company’s monitoring station keep watch over subscribers’ properties and send alerts when suspicious activities are detected. Subscribers also receive monthly activity reports detailing recorded incidents.

The company said its initial market focus would be residential estates, with plans to extend its operations to other parts of the country as demand grows.

Vandera’s longer-term expansion plans include solar energy solutions, inverters and home appliances as it seeks to broaden its presence in Nigeria’s technology and consumer electronics market.

Through its combination of electric mobility, solar-powered surveillance and managed security services, the company aims to make technology more accessible and practical for everyday use.
