The APC Grassroots Governance Organisation has urged Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to avoid actions and statements it said could deepen divisions within the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a statement, the group said the Rainbow Coalition being promoted by Wike was separate from the APC and should not be presented as an organ or campaign structure of the ruling party.
The group also commended Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, and Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for what it described as their efforts to maintain party unity.
It alleged that recent exchanges involving Wike and Uzodimma could create unnecessary tension within the party, adding that disagreements among individuals should not overshadow the interests of the APC.
“The Rainbow Coalition is not the APC. It is not an APC organ. It is not an APC campaign structure. It does not speak for APC governors, APC candidates, or APC members,” the organisation said.
The group said its position was consistent with the recent resolution of APC governors that they would campaign for President Bola Tinubu and candidates sponsored by the party.
Uzodimma had said after a meeting of APC governors in Abuja that the forum would not support any political arrangement capable of weakening the APC or affecting its candidates in the 2027 elections.
The organisation further urged Wike to avoid public exchanges with APC governors and allow party leaders to resolve political differences through dialogue.
It said support for President Tinubu should not be confused with support for candidates contesting against APC candidates in other elections.
Wike, however, has maintained that his Rainbow Coalition is aimed at supporting Tinubu’s 2027 re-election and is not an APC structure. He also said he had not approached APC governors for an alliance.
The group said it remained committed to what it described as party unity, internal democracy and support for APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
