BENIN CITY – THE member representing Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, Hon Marcus Onobum on Sunday protester the outcome of the primary election his constituency which indicated that he lost the primary election.
In a petition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primary Election Petitions Committee, Onobun claimed that the outcome of the election in the 30 wards that make up the constituency indicated that he won but that the committee sent to conduct the election announced Lucky Esiegbe as the winner.
He said “As approved by the leadership of our great party, the primary election for our constituency was to be conducted through the Direct Primary mode, thereby empowering duly registered and card-carrying members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the thirty (30) wards to freely elect the party’s candidate. The exercise witnessed significant participation by party faithful, many of whom openly demonstrated confidence in my candidacy.”
He demanded that ” the Committee immediately reviews the authentic results generated from the thirty (30) wards and verifies same against reports from ward officials, accredited party agents, and available documentary evidence.
“That the Committee investigates the failure to properly collate, announce, and return results at the ward level, including the fact that in many instances no results were brought to the wards in accordance with due process.
“That I, Rt. Hon. Marcus I. Onobun, KSC, be declared the rightful winner of the APC House of Representatives Direct Primary Election for Esan Central, Esan West and Igueben Federal Constituency, having secured the majority of lawful votes cast by registered members of our great party.”
