The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) and the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), will officially launch the National University Advancement Program (NUAP), a landmark initiative designed to accelerate innovation, capacity building, and sustainable development across Nigeria’s university system.
Nigeria’s higher education system is at an important crossroads. Across the country, universities are welcoming more students than ever before, while expectations around quality, relevance, and impact continue to rise. At the same time, institutions are operating in a challenging economic environment that makes long-term sustainability an increasingly pressing concern.
The National University Advancement Program is focused on institutionalizing professional advancement practices, equipping university teams with modern fundraising and alumni engagement skills, and laying the foundation for long-term financial resilience and strategic growth across Nigeria’s public universities.
The program will be launched under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Education, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, alongside key partners including Mr. Samaila Zubairu, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Finance Corporation, and Mr. Wale Adeosun, CFA, Chairman of the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) & CEO, Kuramo Capital Management.
The launch event will take place on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., in Lagos, Nigeria.

The National University Advancement Program represents a strategic partnership between government, the private sector, and education stakeholders, aimed at enhancing institutional leadership, improving academic outcomes, and strengthening the global competitiveness of Nigerian universities. The program is expected to foster best practices in governance, research advancement, resource mobilization, and industry-aligned learning.
By bringing together key actors from education, finance, and policy, NUAP seeks to create a coordinated framework that supports universities in delivering greater social and economic impact, while preparing graduates for leadership in a rapidly evolving global economy.
The launch will convene senior government officials, university leaders, private sector partners, development institutions, and education advocates, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing Nigeria’s higher education agenda.
The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) is dedicated to strengthening Nigeria’s higher education institutions through leadership development, global partnerships, and innovative programs that drive academic excellence and national development.
