ABUJA— As the world prepares to mark Human Rights Day on December 10, prominent political leaders and constitutional scholars are set to gather in Abuja for the HURIWA World Human Rights Dialogue organized by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA).
The event, themed “Human Security and Politics,” will examine the intersection of governance, human rights, and public service. Over a dozen political figures are expected to participate, including Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, former governor of Sokoto State (2007–2015) and current Senator representing Sokoto North. Wamakko will speak on human rights and selfless public service, drawing on her tenure as governor and legislative contributions.
Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN, will also speak, discussing the legal frameworks that protect citizens’ rights in Nigeria. Other participants include constitutional scholars, civil society leaders, and former media executives, all contributing to discussions on accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership.

HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Nnadozie Onwubiko, said the dialogue aims to strengthen institutions, protect citizens’ rights, and ensure that human rights remain central to political leadership. “Our goal is to provide a platform for constructive debate and exchange of ideas on human rights and public service in Nigeria,” he said.
