Job racketeering: Any civil servant involved will face the music – Ondo Govt

— Aiyedatiwa promotes 4,921 Workers recruits 2,830 workers

Ondo state government has warned that any civil servant found involved in job racketeering would not be spared.

The Head of Service HOS, Bayo Philip, said this in Akure while briefing newsmen on this years Public Service Week celebration.

Philip declared that any civil servant found to extort applicants would go unpunished.

According to him ” everyone found culpable in the recruitment of teachers by the State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB) had been served the appropriate punitive measures.

He noted that “during investigation into the employment racketeering, it was discovered that some fraudsters opened consultancy offices disguising to be working for the state government.

“Many unsuspecting applicants were defrauded as they had no link with the state government.

 “Job racketeering is offensive. We had some stunning revelations during the investigation in to the job racketeering that happened during SUBEB recruitment of teachers.

“Some people opened consultancy offices criminally recruiting on behalf of the state government.

“Somebody collected about N3m from some unsuspecting applicants and thereafter looking for some government officials to connive with to secure employments for their victims.

“But I want to state that any civil servant that gets involved in such criminal act would be fired. Some people have been relived of their jobs over the job racketeering at SUBEB.

“We will not gloss over that kind of crime. We will visit the full weight of our sanctions on them. The system does not tolerate this.”

On promotion during the present administration, the HOS said that the Aiyedatiwa administration has approved the promotion of 4,921 Workers and approves recruitment of 2,830 workers to boost public service.

He commended the governor for massive recruitment of teachers for primary and secondary schools in the state.

Philip commendable the governor for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers and the overall development of the State.

According to him “Under the current administration, the following achievements, particularly in the Public Service Sector are worthy of note: Prompt promotion exercises all officers due fur the 2025 promotion have receivedb their letters, and the process for the 2026 promotion is already underway.

“In 2025 a total of 3,089 Mainstream Officers were promoted; 1,832 were promoted in the teaching sector (Primary and Secondary) while all the parastatals of government have followed suit.

“Prompt payment of salaries and leave bonuses Government has been discharging its responsibility in payment of Salaries and allowances to date.

“Steady defrayment of inherited arrears of gratuity both for State and Local Pensions.

“Regular appointment of Permanent Secretaries and other Officers of equivalent rank.

“Recruitment into key sectors such as Health, Education, Justice, Works and Forestry, despite limited resources from 2024 to date, Government has replenished the Service with about 2,830 covering several specialities.

“The foregoing are just the tip of the spear to other giant strides of the Ayedatiwa Administration in all the sectors of the State development.”

Highlighting the programmes, Philip said that the workers would have health walk on Wednesday and a novelty football match between the Mainstream Service and the Local Government teams immediately.

A Public Service Lecture and Interactive session would hold on Thursday during which they would engage past HoS and Permanent Secretaries to share their experiences with a view to impacting on those in service.

He explained that it is imperative to exploit the wealth of experiences of the retired senior civil servants in order to protect the laws that created civil service.

On Friday, Muslim public servants are expected to gather for a Jumat service at the Government House Mosque while Christian public servants will hold a thanksgiving service at the Government House chapel on Sunday.
