Former Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area and past Abia State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Ibe Michael Nwoke, has expressed concerns over the activities of a group identifying as the Southeast Local Government Forum, stating that the body does not officially represent former local government chairmen in the region.

Responding to recent public statements made by members of the group, Nwoke questioned the legitimacy and representativeness of the forum.

“To the best of my knowledge, there is no constitutionally recognized or widely accepted forum of former local government chairmen in the Southeast. Some individuals may be presenting views as though they speak for all, but this does not reflect any consensus among former council leaders,” he said.

Nwoke cautioned against what he described as efforts to create an illusion of unified regional political endorsement, urging stakeholders to focus on genuine issues affecting the Southeast.

“No one has been formally mandated to speak on behalf of all former chairmen. The real challenges—such as insecurity, economic difficulties, and development gaps—should be at the forefront of our engagement,” he noted.

He also appealed to public officials and community leaders to prioritize the well-being of the region over political affiliations or endorsements.

“We must remain focused on solutions that address the frustration of our youths, the fears of our farmers, and the broader safety and progress of our communities.”

Nwoke further urged media platforms and civil society organizations to critically assess and verify the legitimacy of groups making public statements in the name of broader constituencies.

“It’s important we amplify voices that have genuine mandates and are committed to people-centered development. What we need now is responsible leadership and policies that truly reflect the needs of the people,” he concluded.
