Delta Political Vanguard (DPV) has described the late Chief Edwin Clark as giant who contributed greatly to peacebuilding and good governance in Nigeria.

The group said this during a condolence visit to the deceased’s family in Kiagbodo, Ughelli South Local Government Area.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the organization, Michael Diden, popularly known as Ejele, stated that while Pa Clark’s death is a great loss, it also calls for celebration.

According to Ejele, Clark was a pillar in Delta politics. He recalled that past governors of Delta State, including Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as well as the incumbent Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, all sought Clark’s counsel and blessings before assuming office.

Ejele further recounted his personal experience, stating that when he contested for the Delta South Senatorial seat in 2023, it was through the support and influence of the late elder statesman that he was able to secure victory in seven out of the eight local government areas in the district.

Describing Clark as a father figure not only to the Niger Delta but to Nigeria as a whole, Ejele acknowledged his immense contributions to peacebuilding and governance.

While extending DPV’s sympathies to the family, he assured them that the organization would be actively involved in the burial arrangements of the late Pan-Niger Delta leader and elder statesman.

“In every aspect of our late Papa’s burial, we will be greatly involved. If you choose to conduct it without our participation, we will not be happy,” he stated.

Earlier in his address, Prof. Collins Clark, the eldest member of the Clark family and younger brother of the late statesman, expressed gratitude to the Delta Political Vanguard for their visit. He also offered prayers for their safe return.

In her remarks, the eldest daughter of Pa Edwin Clark, Mrs. Rebecca Okorodudu Clark, described her father as a sincere and forthright man, noting that his honesty sometimes made him unpopular. She added that his children have learned invaluable virtues from him, which will continue to guide them in life.

“I am proud to have had Pa Clark as my father,” she stated.

Dignitaries present during the visit included former Managing Director of DESOPADEC, Hon. Askia Ogieh, and former House of Representatives member, Hon. Evelyn Oboro, among others.
