The first non-surgical spinal decompression centre has been unveiled in Nigeria.

Vanguard reports that this development marks a significant advancement in the nation’s healthcare sector.

The initiative aims to improve access to specialized treatment for spinal conditions without the need for invasive procedures.

The launch event, held on Saturday, was led by the Minister of Health, Muhammad Pate, who was represented by the Director of Hospital Services at the ministry, Salaudeen Jimoh. He emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing medical services nationwide.

“We stand here on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Health to support this initiative. This facility is a testament to our ongoing efforts to expand healthcare access. I commend the management for their dedication,” Jimoh stated.

He further highlighted how the centre aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on Health, reinforcing the government’s focus on improving medical accessibility and innovation.

“This facility is timely, as it directly supports the President’s vision for healthcare reform. Nigerians will greatly benefit from the specialized services offered here,” he added.

Dr. Craig Slapinski, Clinical Director and co-founder of the Spine and Nerve Centre, noted the overwhelming demand for the facility’s services and the need for further expansion.

“Our biggest challenge is managing the growing number of patients seeking treatment. Expanding our operations, increasing staff, and acquiring additional equipment are top priorities,” he explained.

He also praised the Nigerian government for its support in securing the necessary approvals and regulatory requirements.

“We have worked closely with various ministries, including the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Petroleum, and they have been instrumental in streamlining the licensing process,” Dr. Slapinski said.

The centre provides a non-surgical treatment alternative for chronic pain sufferers, offering relief without surgery or long-term medication use.

“Our goal is to raise awareness that non-surgical solutions exist for chronic pain management. Many people don’t realize they have options beyond medication and surgery,” he added.

Dr. Slapinski also revealed that many Nigerians had been traveling to Ghana for similar treatment before the Abuja centre was established.

“We had a high volume of Nigerian patients visiting our Accra office. Establishing a facility in Abuja was the next logical step. In the next two years, we plan to expand further across Nigeria,” he disclosed.

He commended the government for making the licensing and registration process efficient, allowing the centre to begin operations promptly.

“The support from the government has been invaluable, ensuring a smooth and efficient registration process. Their encouragement has been crucial in launching this facility,” he concluded.
