The British Deputy High Commissioner’s residence recently played host to a star-studded gathering, as media mogul, Mo Abudu kicked off 2025 with “Lagos Canvas,” a vibrant festival celebrating Nigerian music, art, fashion and film.

The event, attended by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Funke Akindele, and a host of other industry luminaries, showcased the burgeoning Nigerian creative scene. Governor Sanwo-Olu announced a partnership with Mo Abudu to establish a film village and a creative hub in Lagos, building upon the success of the 2024 “Detty December” festivities.

British Deputy High Commissioner, Jonny Baxter also reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian creative industry’s global ascent. Mo Abudu emphasized the immense potential of the sector stating that “Nigeria is a success story tethering at the edge and waiting to happen. We need to push it over so we can fly.”

The event provided a platform for industry leaders to connect, collaborate and propel the Nigerian creative scene to new heights.
