The Nigerian Union of Medical Herbal Practitioners of Nigeria, NUMHPN, has elected Dr Ariyo Akiode as its president with a charge to bring in members from other parts of the country into the fold.
The choice of Akiode was unanimously arrived at during the meeting of the union held in Ibadan, Oyo State, which saw members and leaders of the union from across the country in attendance.
Dr Isaac Fawemimo from Oyo State suggested making Akiode the leader of the group, describing him as a thoroughbred herbal practitioner who knows his onions.
While commenting on the choice of Akiode, Dr Olusola Aduloju, concurred to his choice, but added that he could be addressed as the National Coordinator while efforts would be made to bring on board members from the North and the Southeast.
The whole house agreed to the suggestion and said they would support all efforts to make the union stronger.
In his acceptance speech, Akiode apologised to leaders of the union who had approached him in the past to be the leader, saying he turned down the offer then because he felt there were others who could lead the union as well.
He noted that since the offer to lead was made by all members, he had no choice other than to accept. He promised not to disappoint them.
Among other leaders of the union present at the meeting were Doctors SK Odeyinka, Fatai Jubril, Akinrodoye among others.
