… initiative aimed at enhancing security, transparency of certificates

The School of Politics, Policy, and Governance (SPPG) has become the first institution in Nigeria to implement a blockchain-based certificate verification system.

This innovative technology aims to revolutionise the way academic achievements are authenticated, providing a secure, tamper-proof and immutable
digital ledger for student records accessible worldwide.

This innovative approach, funded by Sterling Bank, aims to safeguard the integrity of certifications and streamline the verification process.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of SPPG, Alero Ayida-Otobo, “Sterling Bank’s commitment to quality and positive educational experiences for people is yet again demonstrated here in their commitment to supporting the adoption of innovative technology across the educational ecosystem.”

“We are one of the first institutions in Nigeria to embrace blockchain for academic credential management, and we look forward to a near future where this is the norm across Nigeria,” he added.

Unlike traditional centralised databases susceptible to tampering, the blockchain-based system offers a decentralized and transparent solution.

Each certificate issued by SPPG is securely recorded on the blockchain, creating a tamper-proof digital ledger accessible by authorized parties worldwide.

“With VX Technologies, we can streamline certificate management, ensuring efficiency,” Ayida-Otobo said, while noting the benefits of the new system in reducing administrative burdens and eliminating unnecessary protocols.

He explained that “The blockchain technology not only enhances security and transparency but also enables students to seamlessly share their verified academic credentials with potential employers or institutions without delays.”

“This innovative approach aligns with SPPG’s commitment to preparing students for the digital future and equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in an interconnected world.”
