The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, on Thursday, tasked the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents, LAAC, on compliance with the ethics of journalism.

Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NAMA, Dr Abdullahi Musa, said this in Lagos during a courtesy visit to LAAC.

Musa highlighted media values such as accountability, independence and impartiality, among others, as some of the attributes required of LAAC in the discharge of their duties.

According to him, journalists are key players in society in terms of information dissemination and must report the truth at all times.

Musa, who sought for synergy between NAMA and other players in the aviation industry, said it was ready to collaborate with key industry players to achieve set goals.

He said: “You are the only industry that keeps society abreast with all that happens whether it is educating, information dissemination and entertainment. Your work is needed by any organised setting. I enjoin everyone of you to stick to media core values in terms of public accountability, independence and impartiality.

“Once you adhere to these core values, the sky is your beginning point in the aspect of journalism. It is important to understand that society at large counts on you. Whatever you tell them, it is left for them to critically analyse and make a choice between what is good and bad. Fundamentally, you are the key players in society in terms of information dissemination. Consequently, the entire society believes that whatever comes from the media is nothing but the truth.

“Whatever we do, tell the world that we are doing well. If it is bad, don’t tell the entire world. Rather, tell us that we have gone astray. This is the only way we can synergise or work as a team to achieve set goals.”
