Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, Prof Lawrence Ezemonye, has bagged the 2021 ‘Environment Icon Award’ for his role and commitment towards promoting sustainable Environmental development.

Ezemonye, a renowned Professor of Ecotoxicology and Environmental Forensics who doubles as Chairman, Centre for Global Eco-Innovation (CGE) Nigeria was honoured alongside other stakeholders from the Environmental and energy sectors at an event held in Benin City, Edo State, by Frontline Energy and Environmental Consultancy Services (FEECS).

Expressing optimism for a sustainable environment for all, Ezemonye, represented by Prof. Ighodaro Igbe, Dean of Pharmacy, Igbinedion University said that effort is on top gear to enhance and improve environmental restoration.

“This year’s World Environment day is a campaign for restoration of mother earth in all entirety.  Ecosystems restoration amidst COVID-19 Pandemic requires innovative regimes for both health and environmental safety,” said Ezemonye.

Ezemonye, a visiting Professor to Lancaster University, United Kingdom, lauded the effort of the organizers of the award in commemoration of the 2021 World Environment Day Celebration, with the theme, “Ecosystem Restoration.”

Some of the awardees for the World Environment Day 2012/Environment Icon Award are, Executive Director, Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria, Dr. Godwin Uyi Ojo,  Executive Director, African Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) Rev. David Ugolor, the immediate Past Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Prof Ignatius Onimawo.

Other awardees include, Prof Babatunde Rabiu, Director/CEO, Centre for Atmospheric Research, National Space Research and Development Agency as well as MD/CEO of Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), Engr.Saliu Ahmed among others.
