Owerri—The Imo State governorship candidate of the Accord Party, AP, yesterday raised an alarm that over 50,000 thugs would be imported into the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship/House of Assembly elections.
Ohakim revealed this while speaking to hundreds of traditional rulers at the Eze Imo palace of Samuel Ohiri, along Mbari street in Owerri.
The former governor of Imo State said he had observed that many of the candidates were not coming to stand for an election, but rather to use thugs to get what they wanted.
Ohakim said that those who were planning to use thugs on Saturday’s election will have themselves to blame.
On how he intends to rescue Imo State and put it on the part of economic prosperity, he said he was going to appoint six strategic positions in first six months in office and that the appointments were aimed at dousing the tension in the state as a result of bad governance.
He mentioned some of the areas which he said needed urgent attention, as the health sector, urban renewal, moral values, rural electrification, water supply and education, among others.
Ohakim said: “Today, I have the required programme experience to hit the ground running. I will clean Imo State. Look at the southwest, what I will do is put down a blueprint so that any government that comes will follow it.
“When I was going out, I handed over a master document plan to develop Imo State to Okorocha and if Okorocha had used the document, Imo State would have been a state with the best economy in the country.”
The Accord Party guber candidate said he was disturbed that, “there is serious tension in the state. Some of the contestants are not preparing for election but for war. About 50,000 thugs will be housed to do the biddings of their masters.
“Let me say this, I hosted thousands of youths during my Burma retreat and after speaking to them, they assured me that they will not allow anybody snatch ballot boxes. I will also say this, if you try to snatch the ballot box, you will have yourself to blame.”
