A woman, Christiana Onuchukwu, has been arrested in Fadeyi area of Lagos State, for allegedly being in the custody of two children who were declared missing five years ago.

Frustrated blind mother of one of the children, relocated to the northern part of the country, after a futile search for her six-year-old son, said to have been abducted in Ebute-Metta area of the state.

Onuchukwu’s arrest was effected after one of the children, identified simply as Ikimot, 12, reported at the Denton Police Station that her guardian was not her mother, neither was she related to her in any way.

The 12-year-old girl disclosed that she was abducted from her parents home when she was seven years and brought to the suspect’s place. She added that she never had contact with her parents since she was taken away from them, begging the Police to help reunite her with her parents.

Vanguard gathered that the DPO in charge of Denton Police Station, CSP Saheed Quadri, led a team of detectives to the suspect’s residence at 1 Ogati Street, Fadeyi, Lagos, where she was subsequently apprehended.

During preliminary investigation, another 11 year-old boy  alleged to have also  been abducted, was found in her custody.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, explained that, “When the suspect and 12-year-old girl  were  debriefed, the latter  stated that she was seven years old when she started living with the former and that her present age is 12.

“She mentioned another little boy called Okashetu Musa as another victim of the suspect. Thus, the DPO dispatched a team of detectives to rescue the boy who was abducted when he was six but now eleven years old.

“In his own account, the boy who could still speak Hausa said he once lived in the Ebute Meta area of the state with his mother.

“The leader of the Hausa community in Ebute Meta was invited to the station to help link the child to his parents.

“The leader, after consultation with his subjects, claimed that the mother of the boy, a blind woman, had relocated to Kastina State having lost hope on the possibility of finding her child.

“Meanwhile, the children have been reunited with their parents while the suspect was today, (yesterday) charged to Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court 5 with conspiracy, abduction and child stealing.

“The CP has directed the Divisional Police Officer to intensify efforts in ensuring that all the persons connected with the crime are arrested and prosecuted.”
